Daniel’s 70 weeks is GOD’S revelation to Daniel concerning the future history of the nation of Israel & Jerusalem. The nation of Israel was conquered by Babylon ~ 606BC. At that time the Babylonians destroyed Solomon’s temple, the 1st temple plus took Daniel and many other Israelis captive back to Babylon. Daniel received this revelation while being in captivity in the Medes empire (Dan C9 V1). The angel Gabriel was commanded by GOD to reveal this prophecy to Daniel. Daniel 70 weeks parallels Israelis history and the book of Revelation. Throughout this prophecy 1 week equals 7 years so 70 weeks equals 490 years, 7 weeks equals 49 years, threescore (60) weeks equals 420 years, 2 weeks equals 14 years and 69 weeks equals 483 years. One thing to remember is that old testament prophecies contain nothing about the age of grace so the timelines for the prophecies are continuous with no age of grace/church age.
- Dan C1 V1, “In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;”
- Dan C9 V20 – 21, “And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God; Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.” The angel Gabriel brings the prophecy to Daniel. The “the holy mountain of my God” is Mt Moriah, temple mount, the site which the Israelis built the temple.
- Dan C9 V22-23, “And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.”
- Dan C9 V24, “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”
70 weeks (490 years) are prophesized for the nation of Israel, “thy people” and Jerusalem, “thy holy city”. This prophecy takes Israel & Jerusalem right to the 2nd coming of JESUS CHRIST the MESSIAH. The age of grace is not included in this prophecy as with all old testament prophecies.
- Dan C9 V25, “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.”
Command to restore/build Jerusalem – Nehemiah C2, not the temple,till the MESSIAH will be 7 weeks (49 years) +62 weeks (434 years) which equals 69 weeks (483 years). Threescore equals 3 X 20 = 60, so “threescore and two weeks” equals 62 weeks. So, from the command to rebuild Jerusalem till JESUS’ 1st advent is 69 weeks or 483 years.
- Dan C9 V26, “And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” From the temple being rebuilt to JESUS’ passion will be“threescore and two weeks” will be 434 years.
- Dan C9 V27, “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” The “he” referred to is the antichrist who will make a covenant (peace agreement) with many for 1 week, 7 years, the last week, the last 7 years only to go into the rebuilt Israelis temple on temple mount to end the sacrifice to GOD in the middle of the last week or 7 years.
- Dan C11 V30 – 32, “For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” Chittim is Rome. These actions are attributed to Antiochus Epiphanes who was defeated by Rome, turned his hatred on the Israel/Jews. The antichrist will do the same to the 3rd/rebuilt temple Dan C9 V27, Dan C12 V11 & Matt C24 V15.
- Dan C11 V36 – 38, “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.” Actions of the antichrist, Dan C7 V8, 25, 2 Thes C2 V1 – 4, Rev C13 V5 – 6 & Rev C16 V10 – 11.
- Dan C12 V11 – 13, “And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.” From the midpoint of the tribulation “from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away”, Dan C7 V27, 1290 days [(1260 days or 3.5 years) + 30 days] and 1335 days [(1260 or 3.5 years) + 90 days].
- Ezra C1 V1 – 6, “Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem. Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem. And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered.” These are the passages that deal with the command to rebuild the temple, “Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.”.
